Due to building operations on the southern Frankenallee, which has become necessary in short-term, the distance between km 34 and km 35 was changed. For this reason, minor corrections at other sections of the marathon course had to be made to achieve the precise length of 42195 meters. As a result, it was possible to optimize the course with respect to the already fast course of the previous year. Three rectangular turns were eliminated in the course. At other three positions rectangular turns were replaced by turning lanes with a much larger, and thus faster turning radius. Therefore the course offers perfect conditions for running fast times.

Course map 2012

The course is easy and fast to run and has led to new course records for men and women in 2011. The new course record was set by the Kenyan runner Wilson Kipsang (2:03:42), also Mamitu Daska run to a new course record with a time of (2:21:59). The first part of the course leads the runners through the city of Frankfurt with its fascinating skyline, then to the district of Sachsenhausen, towards the residential area of Höchst und back along the Mainzer Landstraße through the city centre and the trade fair tower into the ‘Festhalle’ with its red carpet.

There is only a height difference of 27,8 meters spread over the length of 42195 meters [between the lowest point (89,4 meters above sea level) and the highest point (117,2 meters above sea level)].
